We first covered this topic back in 2020, when Microsoft Teams attendance reporting was genuinely limited: only the organizer could download it, and only while the meeting was still in progress. That gap has since closed. Teams now generates a proper post meeting attendance report automatically, and it is one of the more useful reporting features Teams has quietly picked up.
How to get the report today
If you are the meeting organizer or a co-organizer, there are two places to find it once the meeting ends:
- The meeting chat. About five minutes after the meeting ends, an Attendance report tile appears directly in the meeting chat. Select it to download the report as a CSV file.
- The meeting invite. Open the original calendar invite for the meeting and look for the Attendance tab. The report is available there as well, which is useful if the chat has already scrolled past or you want to check attendance for a past recurring session.
The CSV includes attendee names along with their join and leave times, which covers the vast majority of what people actually need an attendance report for, whether that is training compliance, board meeting minutes, or confirming who was present for a decision.
Two things worth knowing
The report is only generated for meetings scheduled through the Teams calendar. An ad hoc "Meet now" call will not produce one. And downloading it is still restricted to the organizer or a co-organizer, so if you are attending someone else's meeting and need proof of attendance, you will need to ask them for it directly rather than pulling it yourself.
If you genuinely are not the organizer and cannot get the official report, the old workaround from 2020 still works in a pinch: open the meeting chat and look at the system messages showing who joined and left, in chronological order. It is not as clean as a CSV, but it confirms who was actually present.
