How to Keep Emails Out of your Junk Mail Folder in Microsoft Outlook

Today a client who agreed to act as a reference to Microsoft for a project we worked on together. Microsoft asked me to make sure the client’s email Spam filter did not block their Reference email.

Since editing Junk Email Options is not covered in email 101, here are the six steps to adding an email address to a Safe Senders List in Microsoft Outlook 2013:

1. In Outlook 2013, select the “Home” Tab.

2. Locate the “Delete” group, and select the “Junk” command button.

3. Select “Junk Email Options” from the dropdown menu.

4. Junk E-mail Options menu will appear. Select the “Safe Senders” tab.

5. Press the “Add” command button.

6. Type or copy/paste the email address into the field and press OK.

Voila! Any emails from that email address will never be treated as junk email again.

These are the exact same steps for Outlook 2010.

If you’re still using Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 there a few extra steps – start with the Tools menu > Options > Preferences tab > E-mail > Junk Email.

The steps for Outlook Web Apps are also different – junk e-mail settings are found in the Options section  via Block or Allow.
