It’s been well over a month since Microsoft announced that they would begin donating Office 365 Enterprise E1 for non-profits subscription licences to non-profit organizations in 41 different countries (Canada included!) to help non-profits ‘do more good’. We’ve received a flurry of questions from interested parties who need support in determining if a cloud solution will fit their business needs.
There has some confusion around terminology used in the “Get Yours Now” slide in the Microsoft USA Corporate Citizenship Office 365 for Non-profits page that I’ve decided to take a few blog posts to decode.
Office Features Decoded: Office Desktop Applications
What?
Office Desktop applications include the entire suite of Microsoft Office software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Lync and InfoPath). They all physically live in your computer.
So What?
You don’t need to be connected to the internet to access desktop applications. Also, desktop applications are full featured allowing you full editing functionality.

What Else?
Desktop applications can only be accessed from the device they are installed on. If an internet connection is not available, files are stored in the computer.

Office 365 is great for all, so if you interested in it then you will do one thing you just go and get some review then you will understand how much it will need.
