Business Intelligence with Interactive Charts in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Fall ’13

Before the upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Fall ’13 I had read that business intelligence would be taking a more prominent position in the new design, but I wasn’t quite sure how that would look.

The pie charts and bar graphs of the past were useful, but often required navigating away from a list to a dashboard or to a pop-up to see the data displayed visually. I did not anticipate the level of instant access that’s now at our fingertips. With the click of a button the interactive charts that have been tucked away on the right-hand side of the screen pop into view.

Take a look to see what I’m talking about:

Note: The image above is a compilation of screenshots to illustrate my point. Interactive Charts are not limited to Activities. They are also available for Accounts, Contacts, Leads, and Opportunities.

In some instances charts were not available OOTB. But do not fret. No deep-end back diving required. Like with the Form Editor button I described in my previous post, the ability to build your own custom charts is right there, yet again available at the click of a button. I’d like you to meet the Chart Designer, an intuitive little tool that packs a punch.

I’m glad I’m documenting all these “ohhh ahhh” moments, as I’m sure I will soon take all this for granted.

What is your favourite chart in Microsoft Dynamics CRM? What sort of business intelligence does it provide you?
