Well, here’s my problem.
I had a document library (in fact all, in my SharePoint farm), that showed all documents in tact, but the various icons for Word, Excel, PDF, etc. were all missing.
The issue started with PDF. I followed my own instructions even but made a typo (here’s where I document how to integrate PDF Support in SharePoint – MOSS and WSS) – bad Sean bad… 🙂 /archive/2008/12/10/installing-pdf-support-in-wss-3-0-and-moss-2007-icon-and-search-1.aspx
This issue can occur under two circumstances usually (in this case, it was a badly formed docicon.xml file but sometimes it could also be mismanaged permissions (or changed permissions) on that file.
When I had added the string below
<Mapping Key=”pdf” Value=”NameofIconFile.gif”/>
I had left off the closing “/”. That was enough to render the whole file unsuable and resulted in my lousy Document Library icon display. Hopefully this helps someone in the future.
Where you have put “When I had added the string below”
After that I cannot see the string. it appears a white box.
Also the link doesn’t go anywhere either
I have this same problem on a word document in moss 2007
Is there anyway you could tell me how you resolved this?
It would be much appreciated
thanks you
Hey there, I just fixed it. When we converted my blog, that must have been ripped out by the script. Sorry about that.
