Got Office 365 Enterprise? Have you enabled Yammer Enterprise or are you on the outside looking in?

What

So you have your Office 365 “E” plan and you are looking to integrate and leverage the full Yammer meal plan (Yammer Enterprise). Maybe like me, you had a Yammer account *before* Microsoft rolled it into the Enterprise plans for the value add win? Maybe like me, you were wondering, what is all the fuss about?  I had Yammer before, it looks all the same now too…

Maybe you too expected to see not only Yammer in the top bar in Office 365, like zo…

But also figured it should appear in your Office 365 Admin Settings, like zo…

So What

Well, if you are missing Yammer from your Admin pane, you are probably missing out on all the Yammer Enterprise goodness. In fact, I didn’t even realize I was missing out until I noticed that other folks Yammer’s were customized, with their logo, custom colours, etc. Turns out, I was still on the free (harumph), “basic network” Yammer. The Yammer link in Office 365 happily took me to Yammer but I really wasn’t getting what all the fuss was about.

What I wanted and was entitled to, as an Office 365 Enterprise E1 or E3 customer (and SharePoint Online, E4 of course as well) was Yammer Enterprise.

Well, it turns out that activating this functionality in your Office 365 Tenancy is not entirely obvious. Sure, it was staring me in the face in the end, but somehow I kept missing it as “noise”. Maybe I’m not alone (or maybe I’m just thick 😉

Now What

Ok. It isn’t tough so here’s a quick visual tour to make sure you have Yammer Enterprise wired up to your Office 365 Tenancy…

First, find this guy…

Click on “Yes. Activate Yammer Enterprise for my network”

Then you’ll see this…

That’s it. I was (somewhat) blissfully unaware I wasn’t leveraging my Yammer Enterprise benefits. Maybe you weren’t too?
