Day 2. Feet hurt, tired of eating *out* already (Wendy would be pleased to hear that. Looking forward to Huey tonight
SharePoint Sites Session
- Pretty basic session. Probably should have signed up for something more technical but…
- Note Board – much like writing on the ‘wall’ in a FaceBook site. Will be interesting to see what chaos it causes (or perhaps it will serve as truly useful to a business/department. Control can be placed on any page and may prove as a more flexible discussion functionality than the traditional discussion lists
- Tag Cloud web part now included
- Silverlight web part now included
- All of the Office apps are now available as office ‘web’ apps – so if you need to open a data file (XLSX, DOCX, etc.) you’ll be able to, in the browser. From what I can tell, this requires the Enterprise CAL (Ecal)
-
Folksonomy – keep hearing this term. As far as I can tell, it is defining the ‘chatter’ between users and Mysite like capabilities. I must remember to invent a word one day. Absquatulation is taken – *sigh*
Played in the Labs
- Explored InfoPath forms to edit list new/edit pages. Very cool for quick, rapid and functional entry forms with point and click capability
- Love the theming and inheritance of themes/colour schemes. Buggy in the labs but if it ships, it is great. PowerPoint theming also possible (build in PowerPoint, display in the site)
- Rapid site edits on the dashboard. Amazing power and control, though navigating it will take a little bit
- WIKI list linking is so awesome for rapid data sharing on the dashboard
-
Blank Master page template out of the box. Very promising, but found it challenging to place objects on it (locked out?)
Workflow Session
- Workflow Visualization – Create a workflow, have it drawn in Visio Web Services. Show the path that the approval took and who did/didn’t approve it, visually
-
Built-In Human Workflows (out of box) now can be modified/extended
- Approval, Collect Feedback, Collect Signatures
- No longer tied to a single list
- New workflow types – site, c-type and reusable
- Reusable workflows – Yes!
- Task expirations for nagging (hell yes)
-
Document approvals can approve a document set (group)
Other Notes
-
Partied on the beach at Mandalay Bay with an open bar and Huey Lewis and the News. GREAT TIME. Went “back in time”
