For some reason, the August WSS 3.0 release was delayed for about 6 weeks. The August Cumulatives for SharePoint are now released (take time for pause, evaluate and then deploy of course).
- August 2009 Cumulative Update for MOSS 2007: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973399
- August 2009 Cumulative Update for WSS 3.0: http://support.microsoft.com/973400
The build number will be 6514. Apply WSS 3.0 first, then MOSS 2007 then run the Configuration Wizard (psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait –force).
If you are building a new SharePoint Environment today (October 2009), here’s your installation path:
- Install SharePoint (properly 🙂
- Apply WSS SP2
- Apply MOSS SP2
- Apply WSS August Cumulative
- Apply MOSS August Cumulate
- Run the Configuration Wizard

Side Note
BTW, don’t panic if you get something like the following…
The -force command is invalid
If you have cut and pasted the text from above into your command prompt, there is a good chance DOS has jumbled your ASCII characters. Simply remove the “-” from each of the commands and replace with “-” from your keyboard (i.e. at the DOS Prompt). They might look the same, but STSADM is fussy about the right characters being used and the cut and paste from the HTML page is the problem, the command syntax.
