This must have been what Sean and I were thinking 15 years ago when we had the brilliant idea to build a cat tree. We thought we could save money and it was before we had kids so we were pretty excited to give our cats the best cat tree in town. It took the entire day to build it, and several blisters, expletives and a bump on my head from walking into it later, we had a magnificent yet hideous cat tree. When we were done we just burst out laughing because it was so ridiculous, I mean – what were we thinking?! You know that mashed potatoes scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind? Yeah…it was a bit like that.
Fast forward to around 5 years ago. We had had a pretty stressful year and business was slow for us and everyone else in town. We were trying to think of a catchy ad or a new avenue to get people to notice the company. I am pretty sure there was a little wine involved and lots of giggling, but when it was all said and done, we came up with this:
It’s definitely not everyone’s preferred ad in the office, but it is hands down my favourite thing we’ve ever done. I mean really, ROBOTS?! It doesn’t get better than that.
Incidentally, the cat tree now sits proudly at my mom’s house and has been enjoyed by a few cats. It is uglier than hell, but you could hang a robot off of it and it would still be standing 😉
