Office 365 migration error “The target mail user doesn’t have an SMTP address that matches the target delivery domain”

Office 365 migration error

I was doing some mailbox migrations (remote move) from our on premise Exchange 2013 server to the cloud and I ran into the following error on one user.

“The target mail user doesn’t have an SMTP address that matches the target delivery domain ‘Service.company.com”

For once this was an easy error to fix. For whatever reason this user had been created after we went hybrid or had the account re-done at some point and was just missing its SMTP address for the service account. All I had to do was go to Email Address in the account and add a SMTP address for domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com. Basically it was the onmicrosoft.com SMTP address that was missing from that account that was on everyone else’s so it was pretty easy to pinpoint.

I then Dirsync the changes to the cloud and re-ran the migration and everything was good to go.
