Youth and Technology

I went with my son on a field trip to the Parliament Buildings today. It was very cool – I’ve never been in all the years I’ve lived in Victoria. It was neat to see how interested the kids were and to hear the questions they were asking. Also, I couldn’t help but notice how about half of them had an iPod Touch or an iPad to take pictures with!

I thought back to when I went on a 4 day field trip to the mainland with my band class. I had my trusty Walkman with the 18 backup batteries. I had my friend’s tape of Eddie Murphy’s Delirious in there (don’t tell my mom). Oh and let’s not forget my disposable camera.

I guess sometimes I don’t realize how far we’ve all come with technology until I see a bunch of kids using it like it’s no big thing. It really hit home this weekend as well when Sean and I were going through an old box of cd’s and tapes that we’ve had for years. Our daughter didn’t know what a cassette tape was and then couldn’t get it back in the case!

Just waiting on the flying cars now…
