{"id":317,"date":"2014-07-24T17:33:10","date_gmt":"2014-07-24T17:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/stellark\/?p=317"},"modified":"2023-02-24T19:17:06","modified_gmt":"2023-02-24T19:17:06","slug":"upgrade-exchange-2010-sp1-or-sp2-to-sp3-for-sbs-2011-standard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/stellark\/2014\/07\/24\/upgrade-exchange-2010-sp1-or-sp2-to-sp3-for-sbs-2011-standard\/","title":{"rendered":"Upgrade Exchange 2010 SP1 or SP2 to SP3 for SBS 2011 Standard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">Being somewhat of a \u201cnewbie\u201d to the SBS environment I thought it best to OVER research an Exchange 2010 SP1 to SP3 upgrade followed by Rollup 6 (KB2936871) that I was planning to perform.&nbsp; I didn\u2019t expect to come across so many issues that people had experienced but I was thankful for information as it kept me ahead of the game in knowing what to watch out for.&nbsp; Below are the steps that I followed for MY upgrade.&nbsp; The updates executed as expected following these steps so hopefully they will save others some headaches and\/or time scouring online for a resolution to a task gone sideways.&nbsp; Total time from start to finish was approximately 1.5 hours which included server restarts and stopping services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Thanks to all the blog and forum posts I read that enabled me to compile this list of <em>\u201cWhat to Do\u2019s\u201d<\/em>&nbsp; and <em>\u201cWhat to Watch out for\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Steps<\/span><\/h3>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left\">&nbsp;<\/h5>\n<h3>1) Ensure that there is a good, full backup of VM or server<\/h3>\n<h3>2) Make sure that you DO NOT have Windows Management Framework (WMF) 3.0&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; installed on the server<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>From a command prompt run &#8211;&nbsp; wmic qfe list | findstr \u201c2506143\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\n<h6>or look for KB2506143. You will need to uninstall this patch and then reboot the server before you install the SP3 upgrade<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>3) Ensure the account running the update is a member of Schema Admins and Enterprise Admins as SP3 involves an AD schema update<\/h3>\n<h3>4) Reboot server before upgrading if not already rebooted from above step \u2013 Definitely recommended<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li>Not required but allows for a clean start up, frees up resources and releases connections<\/li>\n<li>Also ensures that in the event any \u201cPrevious installations\u201d were attempted and NOT completed the server is rebooted to a ready state<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>5) Export current Certificate for mail services with private key<\/h3>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left\"><em>\u2013 <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/exchangemaster.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/27\/exchange-2010-sp3-installation-fails-on-sbs-2011\/\">More Info<\/a><\/h5>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li>If the mail server certificate isn\u2019t already fully exported and nicely tucked away somewhere safe and accessible then do so before performing the upgrade\u2026.JUST IN CASE<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>6) Stop Backup Exec services if in use<\/h3>\n<h3>7) Turn off SBS manager in services<\/h3>\n<h3>8) Stop BES services (if applicable) in correct order<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">To stop the services:<\/p>\n<p>BlackBerry Controller<\/p>\n<p>BlackBerry Dispatcher<\/p>\n<p>BlackBerry Router<\/p>\n<p>All remaining BlackBerry Enterprise Server services<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>9) Disable Anti Virus services<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li>Disable don\u2019t just Stop &#8220;real time scanning&#8221;. This will cause the Languages install phase to stall and I have seen users report times of up to 1.5 hours to complete\u2026JUST THIS PHASE<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>10) Install&nbsp; Exchange SP3<\/h3>\n<h3>11) Upon SP3 completion launch Exchange Management Shell and execute:<\/h3>\n<h3>get-exchangeserver | fl name,edition,admindisplayversion<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/stellark\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/07\/image22.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px;border-right-width: 0px;border-bottom-width: 0px;border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/stellark\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/07\/image_thumb19.png\" width=\"680\" height=\"63\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left\"><em><em><\/em><\/em>&nbsp;<\/h5>\n<h3>12) In Internet Explorer deselect <font color=\"#ff0000\">\u201cCheck for Publisher\u2019s certificate\u201d <font color=\"#cccccc\">and<\/font> \u201cCheck for server certificate revocation\u201d<\/font><\/h3>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left\"><em><em><\/em>\u2013 <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/ff637981.aspx\">More Info<\/a><\/h5>\n<h3>When you install an update rollup package, Exchange tries to connect to the certificate revocation list (CRL) Web site. Exchange examines the CRL list to verify the code signing certificate.
