It’s been well over a month since Microsoft announced that they would begin donating Office 365 Enterprise E1 for non-profits subscription licences to non-profit organizations in 41 different countries (Canada included!)<\/em> to help\u00a0non-profits\u00a0‘do more good’. We’ve received a flurry of questions from interested parties who need support in determining if a cloud solution will fit their business needs.<\/p>\n

There has some confusion around terminology used\u00a0in the “Get Yours Now” slide in the Microsoft USA Corporate Citizenship Office 365 for Non-profits<\/a> page that I’ve decided to take a few blog posts to decode.<\/p>\n

What?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Office Desktop applications include the entire suite of Microsoft Office software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Lync and InfoPath). They all physically live in your computer.<\/p>\n

So What?<\/strong><\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need to be connected to the internet to access desktop applications. Also, desktop applications are full featured allowing you full editing functionality.<\/p>\n

What Else?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Desktop applications can only be accessed from the device they are installed on. If an internet connection is not available, files are stored in the computer.<\/p>\n
