This colourful, circular actually had nothing to do with the Office software &#8211; but everything to do with their operating system experience.<\/p>\n<p>The Start button has been visible in the bottom left hand corner of the desktop from as far back as Windows XP in various shapes and colours. But it&#8217;s always been there &#8211; see:<\/p>\n<p>Windows 7:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-7-start.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-621\" src=\"http:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-7-start.png\" alt=\"windows-7-start\" width=\"428\" height=\"548\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Windows Vista:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-vista-start.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-623\" src=\"http:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-vista-start.png\" alt=\"windows-vista-start\" width=\"313\" height=\"468\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Windows XP:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-xp-start.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-622\" src=\"http:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-xp-start.png\" alt=\"windows-xp-start\" width=\"380\" height=\"442\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With Windows 8, the bottom left corner is blank:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/Windows-8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-625\" src=\"http:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/Windows-8.png\" alt=\"Windows-8\" width=\"328\" height=\"392\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At least until you hover your mouse over that corner:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/Windows-8-start.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-624\" src=\"http:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/Windows-8-start.png\" alt=\"Windows-8-start\" width=\"337\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So what&#8217;s the big deal?<\/p>\n<p>Well when you click on the Windows 8 start icon, a start menu doesn&#8217;t pop up &#8211; instead you find yourself on the Start screen &#8211; with a slew of colourful tiles to click on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-8-apps.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-627\" src=\"http:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-8-apps.png\" alt=\"windows-8-apps\" width=\"576\" height=\"324\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Personally, I LOVE this new design. Sure, it&#8217;s partially because I have a touchscreen device so swiping through the menu is fun, but it&#8217;s mainly because I can now type the first letter of the program I want to sort through\u00a0and narrow down\u00a0the options. Like with this example, where I started typing &#8220;Word&#8221; and the program I was looking for popped up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-8-apps-search.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-628\" src=\"http:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/07\/windows-8-apps-search.png\" alt=\"windows-8-apps-search\" width=\"672\" height=\"378\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I get it. Not everyone likes this deviation from the past. And that&#8217;s ok. I won&#8217;t judge. And I&#8217;ll do you one better. Here&#8217;s some pointers to help make your experience more comfortable:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question # 3- <\/strong><strong>How do I get the &#8220;start&#8221; button back? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You <em><strong>don&#8217;t have to\u00a0uninstall Windows 8<\/strong><\/em> to get the Start menu back. Instead, just <em><strong>upgrade to Windows 8.1<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; here&#8217;s a link to a previous blog post to get you started: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/time-upgrade-windows-8-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Time to Upgrade to Windows 8.1<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And if you can&#8217;t upgrade\u00a0(for whatever reason) there are <em><strong>third party downloads that give your beloved start button and menus back<\/strong><\/em>.
