{"id":364,"date":"2014-04-08T18:49:09","date_gmt":"2014-04-09T01:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/?p=364"},"modified":"2023-02-24T20:45:58","modified_gmt":"2023-02-24T20:45:58","slug":"two-important-decisions-to-make-before-setting-up-an-office-365-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/2014\/04\/08\/two-important-decisions-to-make-before-setting-up-an-office-365-account\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Important Decisions to Make Before Setting Up an Office 365 Account"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote a blog post back in October 2013 about &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/how-to-get-a-free-non-profit-office-365-subscription-in-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How to Get a Free Non-Profit Office 365 Subscription in Canada<\/a>&#8221; &#8211; and recently realized that\u00a0it contains key points that are relevant to ANY organization looking to get started with Office 365.<\/p>\n<p><em>[NOTE: Since originally posting this in April 8, 2014,\u00a0I have added two more important key points that all organizations should keep in mind.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of de-cluttering, here they are:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>#1 &#8211; IMPORTANT:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Make sure you choose the\u00a0<strong>exact plan<\/strong><em> (i.e. Not-for-Profit, business, etc.)\u00a0<\/em>you want\u00a0to use\u00a0when you\u00a0sign up for a demo Office 365 trial.<br \/>\n<strong>Why:<\/strong> Whatever domain you choose for you demo <em><strong>cannot<\/strong><\/em> be transferred to a different plan after it&#8217;s setup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2 &#8211;<\/strong> <em><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Make sure you choose the exact domain you want\u00a0to use when you\u00a0sign up for a demo Office 365 trial.<br \/>\n<b>Why:<\/b> Whatever domain you choose for you demo<em><strong> cannot<\/strong> <\/em>be changed later.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Domain = The portion of the user ID that appears after the\u00a0@ .<\/li>\n<li>It is used to generate the URL for your\u00a0internal SharePoint team site collection.\u00a0<em><strong>Choose wisely.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li>You cannot purchase a custom\u00a0domain name\u00a0for your shared SharePoint site collection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Tip:<\/strong> <\/em>Plan ahead. Pick 2 or\u00a03 preferable user IDs in case someone has already\u00a0taken\u00a0your top pick. Keep\u00a0the user ID short, title focused,\u00a0and organization-focused.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>#3 &#8211; IMPORTANT:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>The first user that is created is the primary<strong> \u201ctenant administrator\u201d <\/strong>(i.e. full control, \u201cgod\u201d mode)<strong> \u2013 <\/strong>this <strong><em><strong>cannot<\/strong><\/em> <\/strong>be changed later. <em><strong>Choose wisely.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><b><i>#4 &#8211; IMPORTANT:<\/i><\/b><i>\u00a0<\/i>Understand that<i> <\/i>any files or data you upload to the demo\u00a0Office 365\u00a0environment will be deleted if you let the trial\u00a0expire and do not sign up for a paid account (or apply the free TechSoup NFP\u00a0 licenses).<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">*<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><strong>Last Updated:<\/strong> July 22, 2015<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> This post was updated this post to delete all references to &#8220;external public SharePoint\u00a0websites&#8221; as they are no longer exist\/available via Office 365.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote a blog post back in October 2013 about &#8220;How to Get a Free Non-Profit Office 365 Subscription in Canada&#8221; &#8211; and recently realized that\u00a0it contains key points that are relevant to ANY organization looking to get started with Office 365.
