{"id":2360,"date":"2017-05-05T15:30:39","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T22:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itgroove.net\/oh365eh\/?p=2360"},"modified":"2023-02-24T20:34:33","modified_gmt":"2023-02-24T20:34:33","slug":"microsoft-planner-used","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/2017\/05\/05\/microsoft-planner-used\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Microsoft Planner Used For?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My Windows Insider friend asked me another question that I wanted to share:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em><strong>&#8220;What kind of planning is Microsoft Planner used for?&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Short answer:<\/strong>\u00a0Many things, but mostly work that involves a group or team working together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itgroove.net\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2017\/05\/Microsoft-Planner.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2379 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/itgroove.net\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2017\/05\/Microsoft-Planner-300x233.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What You Can Do with Microsoft Planner:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Create a Plan.<\/li>\n<li>Organize tasks within a Plan onto Boards.<\/li>\n<li>Assign ownership of Tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Organize Tasks into Boards that can be\u00a0Grouped into Buckets.<\/li>\n<li>Look at Charts to see an at-a-glance status update of a\u00a0Plan.<\/li>\n<li>Look at the Planner Hub Dashboard to see a big\u00a0picture overview of the progress on multiple Plans.<\/li>\n<li>See a list of all the tasks assigned to you\u00a0across various Plans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is Planner?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I find it is easier to explain what I think it is not when people ask me &#8220;what is Planner?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In my opinion:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Planner\u00a0is not designed\u00a0to be a tool for an individual to\u00a0manage their individual tasks. **<\/li>\n<li>Planner\u00a0is not designed to be a tool for a Project Manager to use for Project, Portfolio, or Resource Management. **<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/products.office.com\/en-us\/business\/task-management-software\">Microsoft Planner<\/a>\u00a0is a web-based tool designed for\u00a0a group of people within an organization to work together to organize their plans and teamwork on various ad-hoc projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here is a great diagram that Loryan Strant (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheCloudMouth\">@TheCloudMouth<\/a>) shared in his\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/reoffice365.com\/first-experiences-with-microsoft-to-do-cdfffbe19037\">First experiences with Microsoft To-Do<\/a>&#8221; post on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reoffice365.com\/\">RE: Office 365 site<\/a>\u00a0that illustrates the differences very clearly:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itgroove.net\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2017\/05\/Office365-Task-Plan-Project-Tools.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2361 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/itgroove.net\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2017\/05\/Office365-Task-Plan-Project-Tools.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/05\/Office365-Task-Plan-Project-Tools.png 800w, https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/05\/Office365-Task-Plan-Project-Tools-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/regroove.ca\/oh365eh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/05\/Office365-Task-Plan-Project-Tools-768x439.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>** \u00a0Notice how I was careful to say &#8220;Planner is not\u00a0designed\u00a0for&#8230;&#8221; and avoid saying &#8220;Planner is not&#8230;&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>Just because Planner is a tool designed for a group to collaborate, it actually has some great applications for the individual!<\/p>\n<p>Here is a\u00a0link to my story of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/itgroove.net\/oh365eh\/2017\/05\/08\/use-microsoft-planner-organize-individual-tasks\/\">how I use Planner to organize my task management as an individual<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My Windows Insider friend asked me another question that I wanted to share: &#8220;What kind of planning is Microsoft Planner used for?&#8221; Short answer:\u00a0Many things, but mostly work that involves a group or team working together.
