{"id":954,"date":"2012-02-03T09:10:00","date_gmt":"2012-02-03T17:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.brainlitter.com\/2012\/02\/02\/how-to-quickly-determine-if-the-sharepoint-installation-you-inherited-was-installed-as-standalone\/"},"modified":"2012-02-03T09:10:00","modified_gmt":"2012-02-03T17:10:00","slug":"how-to-quickly-determine-if-the-sharepoint-installation-you-inherited-was-installed-as-standalone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/brainlitter\/2012\/02\/03\/how-to-quickly-determine-if-the-sharepoint-installation-you-inherited-was-installed-as-standalone\/","title":{"rendered":"How to quickly determine if the SharePoint installation you inherited was installed as standalone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We recently inherited a SharePoint implementation that my gut was telling me wasn\u2019t up to the level the customer expected from their previous provider.\u00a0 The first question was, is this farm ready to scale?<\/p>\n<p>When you install SharePoint 2010, you get the question of whether you are installing complete or standalone (and even when you choose Complete, it still tries again\u2026 I could see why this would be confusing\u2026 <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-winkingsmile\" style=\"border-style: none\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/02\/wlEmoticon-winkingsmile.png\" alt=\"Winking smile\" \/>).\u00a0 Anyways, the customer wanted to ensure they could grow their farm (add more servers) and that they were using the full version of SQL they purchased.<\/p>\n<p>They weren\u2019t, and here\u2019s how you can tell if this has happened to you\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/02\/SNAGHTML5c31a45d.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"SNAGHTML5c31a45d\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/02\/SNAGHTML5c31a45d_thumb.png\" alt=\"SNAGHTML5c31a45d\" width=\"244\" height=\"128\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the registry, there will be an entry for &#8220;ServerRole&#8221; which will tell you the installation type<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stand Alone \u2013 SINGLESERVER (uh oh)<\/li>\n<li>Farm Stand Alone &#8211; WFE<\/li>\n<li>Farm Complete \u2013 APPLICATION<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And if SQL Express was used (installed if you choose standalone \u2026 unless you are installing SharePoint on a Domain Controller in which\u00a0 you can\u2019t, not that you should <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-winkingsmile\" style=\"border-style: none\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/02\/wlEmoticon-winkingsmile.png\" alt=\"Winking smile\" \/>)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/02\/SNAGHTML5c32e18c.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"SNAGHTML5c32e18c\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/02\/SNAGHTML5c32e18c_thumb.png\" alt=\"SNAGHTML5c32e18c\" width=\"244\" height=\"130\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; We recently inherited a SharePoint implementation that my gut was telling me wasn\u2019t up to the level the customer expected from their previous provider.\u00a0 The first question was, is this farm ready to scale?
