Ok, never thought I’d say that.\u00a0 Clutter (perhaps there was a better word for it, I personally always had a \u201cNoise\u201d folder with rules assigned in my Outlook for stuff that didn’t matter and occassionally got housecleaned \u2013\u00a0 but not to say \u201cNoise\u201d was any better) is here, for Office 365\/Exchange Online, Outlook Web Access (OWA)\u00a0and the Outlook Web Apps (always OWA, groan\u2026).<\/p>\n

Our Office 365 Tenancy is enabled for \u201cFirst Release<\/a>\u201d.\u00a0 That means we get the goodies PDQ and get to try them before your business does.<\/p>\n

Today, Microsoft made the official announcement about Clutter (or to \u201cDe-Clutter\u201d) on their Office Blog<\/a>, and sure enough, it appeared in our tenancy right away as\u00a0a First Guinea Pig<\/span>, er, Release.\u00a0 While I keep a very clean inbox<\/a>\u00a0and have done for a very long time, I’m curious to see how this works so I’m going for it Day One.<\/p>\n

A few key points\u2026<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. It is disabled by default<\/li>\n
  2. It is configurable\u00a0in Outlook Web Access, not in Outlook<\/li>\n
  3. It uses machine learning to determine what is clutter and moves items that don’t matter to that folder<\/li>\n
  4. Those of you keeping a tidy inbox, this won’t likely have much of an impact. But those of you that prefer to use other methods to file all messages directly in the Inbox, this may prove useful<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Here’s how it goes\u2026<\/p>\n

    Enable it in your Outlook Web Access<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Notice the Clutter folder in your mailbox (in OWA, OWA or Outlook, and not to be confused with MOWA \u2013\u00a0 sigh, again\u2026)<\/li>\n
    2. Let Clutter do its thing (Machine Learning) and help it along the way, by moving items to Clutter that you find are, well, clutter\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Enable Clutter<\/h2>\n

      In Outlook Web Access, choose Options<\/strong> from the top right settings menu (the Cog), and then choose Clutter under \u201cMail<\/strong>\u201d and select \u201cSeparate items identified as clutter<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n
