{"id":411,"date":"2008-11-26T21:03:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-26T21:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brainlitter.itgroove.net\/2008\/11\/26\/how-to-exclude-managed-paths-in-wss-30-and-moss-2007\/"},"modified":"2008-11-26T21:03:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-26T21:03:00","slug":"how-to-exclude-managed-paths-in-wss-30-and-moss-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/brainlitter\/2008\/11\/26\/how-to-exclude-managed-paths-in-wss-30-and-moss-2007\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Exclude Managed Paths in WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ExternalClass797AFF79AAFC4EF396A6ADA4D9BAE327\">\n<p>Discovered today that something that was very familiar in WSS 2.0 (the necessity to exclude managed paths for directories that you don&#8217;t want &#8216;managed&#8217; by SharePoint, was done in Central Admin in WSS 2.0), is <u>even easier in WSS 3.0<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1>In WSS 2.0, to exclude a managed path:<\/h1>\n<p>Reference: <a>http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/cc287929.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1>In WSS 3.0 (and MOSS 2007), to exclude a managed path:<\/h1>\n<p>Create your virtual directory in IIS. That&#8217;s it. WSS will just ignore it. Nice.<\/p>\n<p>Remember though to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Define any non-standard default documents in IIS<\/li>\n<li>Perform an IISRESET, otherwise SharePoint isn&#8217;t yet *aware* of the new mapping<\/li>\n<li>If you have extended the site in various forms (alternate access mappings, etc.) EACH URL will need the virtual paths created<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I have read that some people (different strokes, different folks) have had to give the Network Service account read permissions on the physical directory.
