Connect to Outlook is disabled\/unavailable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ran into this the other day.\u00a0 \u201cConnect to Outlook\u201d was unavailable (greyed out\/disabled) in a new SharePoint 2013 farm.\u00a0 Often you\u2019d see this if you are using an unsupported browser in previous versions of SharePoint (Firefox, Chrome, etc.\u00a0 was an IE \u2018only\u2019 thang).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2013\/11\/image2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-top: 0px;padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2013\/11\/image_thumb1.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"687\" height=\"223\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The quick solution in our case was to deactivate the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/b\/wbaer\/archive\/2012\/11\/12\/introduction-to-minimal-download-strategy-in-sharepoint-2013.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minimal Download Strategy<\/a>\u201d site (web) feature and this returned the functionality immediately.\u00a0 The Minimal Download Strategy is a pretty cool new feature but won\u2019t always be a fit and in this immediate case, disabling it was a working solution until we find the root cause.\u00a0 We suspect it may be a missing element in a custom master page and thus it doesn\u2019t support MDS.\u00a0 More on that later.\u00a0 There are other issues out there on the interweb that suggest you need to decide if MDS works for you or not.\u00a0 This is at least quick and simple.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2013\/11\/image3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-top: 0px;padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2013\/11\/image_thumb2.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"631\" height=\"45\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ran into this the other day.\u00a0 \u201cConnect to Outlook\u201d was unavailable (greyed out\/disabled) in a new SharePoint 2013 farm.\u00a0 Often you\u2019d see this if you are using an unsupported browser in previous versions of SharePoint (Firefox, Chrome, etc.\u00a0 was an IE \u2018only\u2019 thang).
