{"id":1900,"date":"2012-12-23T19:07:41","date_gmt":"2012-12-24T03:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brainlitter.com\/?p=1900"},"modified":"2012-12-23T19:07:41","modified_gmt":"2012-12-24T03:07:41","slug":"sharepoint-sites-and-reserved-words-may-not-be-what-they-appear-to-be","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/brainlitter\/2012\/12\/23\/sharepoint-sites-and-reserved-words-may-not-be-what-they-appear-to-be\/","title":{"rendered":"SharePoint sites and reserved words may not be what they appear to be"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I ran into the following today and from memory, I\u2019ve done this before too.\u00a0 Luckily it only took me a few minutes to reach back into the mental archives or I might have been pulling some more hair out.<\/p>\n<h2>What<\/h2>\n<p>Well, I\u2019m in the thick of a SharePoint content migration from 2010 to 2013.\u00a0 We have a blog site (web) at the path \/blogs.\u00a0 Always have had.<\/p>\n<p>Today I was moving content to a new farm, in a new domain, on a new network.\u00a0 Extra Virgin.<\/p>\n<p>I went to create the \/blogs web inside my site collection and I got this back from SharePoint<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/12\/image12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-top: 0px;padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/12\/image_thumb12.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"648\" height=\"165\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Let me paraphrase, for the search engines\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffc000;font-family: Courier New\">Sorry, something went wrong<br \/>\n&#8220;blogs&#8221; cannot be used as a site name. Site names cannot contain certain reserved words and cannot begin with an underscore. Please enter a different name. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>So What<\/h2>\n<p>As my life and thinking is structured in bullets, let me show you how this played out\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>But Mommmmm. I want my blog site where I want it!!??<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m hungry. No wait, I\u2019m thirsty.\u00a0 Let\u2019s get some Scotch.<\/li>\n<li>Then there was a pause for reflection.\u00a0 Then a \u201chmm, maybe I should go find out what all the reserved words for SharePoint might be?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Then a light bulb. Wait a minute!\u00a0 I created a managed path in this web application called \u201cblogs\u201d.\u00a0 I had a greater plan and I was working towards it but then I had detoured and forgot about the grand vision.\u00a0 There is no reserved word in SharePoint called \u201cblogs\u201d.\u00a0 I create the problem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Sure enough\u2026<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/12\/image13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-top: 0px;padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/brainlitter\/2012\/12\/image_thumb13.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"552\" height=\"368\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So I removed the managed path and life carried on.
