In past posts, I\u2019ve blogged about using Microsoft Word and Windows Live Writer<\/a> (with its suite or sweet! of add-ins to enhance your blogs<\/a>) to contribute to a SharePoint blog.\u00a0 I even recently wrote about blogging to SharePoint from iPads\/iPhones and other mobile devices<\/a> using SharePlus<\/a>.\u00a0 Finally, although I wrote it for WSS\/MOSS 2007, I still think knowledge blogging<\/a> is the biggest thing some companies can do, to improve communications within, particularly tech companies that share lots of information, regularly.<\/p>\n

However, one thing I\u2019ve discovered is that folks aren\u2019t aware of how to open \u201cexisting\u201d blog posts using Microsoft Word (it\u2019s a little more obvious in Windows Live Writer), if you wanted to update or change a post.<\/p>\n

First, let\u2019s recap how you register Word as a blog authoring tool for SharePoint<\/h3>\n

  1. I assume you already have a SharePoint Blog.\u00a0 I also assume you have Microsoft Word 2007 or 2010 (support for blogs started with 2007).\u00a0 Go to your Blog site<\/li>\n
  2. Choose \u201cLaunch blog program to post\u201d \u2013 yep, that\u2019s it (after clicking ok to accept the image location).\u00a0 Note however that Word can often get \u2018trapped\u2019 in the taskbar during this step, so look for the icon in your tray and click on it, if you find the program is not responding \u2013 don\u2019t just keep clicking \"Winking<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Alternatively, you could open Word and choose File \u2013> New \u2013> Blog Post \u2013> Create<\/strong>. Then you would choose Manage Accounts and add your blog account there.<\/p>\n
