The following is what I learned from trying to go through this install (for the second time &#8212; the first time was a failure because we hadn\u2019t setup Apps properly).<\/p>\n<p><em>NOTE: In this article, unless otherwise stated, all references to Access Services apply to Access Services (2013) in SharePoint Server 2013.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hardware \/ Software<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SharePoint 2013 with a WFE Server and an APP server (in our case, these were different virtual machines) on minimally Win Server 2008 R2, preferably Win Server 2012\n<li>SQL Server 2012 SP1 Server (minimally, you need \u201cStandard\u201d, \u201cBI\u201d or \u201cEnterprise\u201d also work) \u2013 SQL Server 2008 is <u>NOT<\/u> sufficient for Access Services 2013<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Details<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Download this document, which is from MS and is the starting point for documentation.&nbsp; <a title=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=30445\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=30445\">http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=30445<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Follow the steps in the document, I\u2019ll just summarize things a bit below, and my experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>You\u2019ll need to download the following components (to your SharePoint \u201cAPP\u201d server).\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Local DB (SQLLocalDB.msi)\n<li>Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier Application Framework (Dacframework.msi)\n<li>Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client (sqlncli.msi)\n<li>Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL ScriptDom (SQLDOM.MSI)\n<li>Microsoft System CLR Types for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SQLSysClrTypes.msi)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p>These are available from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=29065\">SQL Server 2012 Feature Pack<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>You\u2019ll need a desktop\/non-SP server machine with the Access 2013 Client application installed (<u>must<\/u> be Office 2013, and should be Professional Plus) for the very last step\n<li>You need a SharePoint farm built to best practices\n<li>You MUST first configure your SharePoint environment (completely) for \u201capps\u201d \u2013 without this, the rest will fail.&nbsp; Check out <a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/fp161236%28office.15%29.aspx\">this TechNet article<\/a> for details.\n<li>Create a <a href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-CA\/library\/ms143219.aspx\">new instance<\/a> on your SQL server 2012 for ACCESS.&nbsp; Typically you can use the same server as is running your SharePoint DBs, this instance isn\u2019t likely to be overly taxing \u2013 unless your Access DBs are ridiculously large.\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure you setup backups for this instance in your backup software<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Setup the SQL server according to the settings in the installation document (above).\n<ul>\n<li>Including the database instance, security mode, specific settings (triggers, language, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Setup the firewall on the SQL server appropriately (if you have a separate instance, running on a different port, be sure to open that port in the firewall)\n<li>Install the SQL server components (you downloaded above) on your APP server (they shouldn\u2019t need to be installed on a WFE, only the server you plan to run Access Services from \u2013 which should be your APP server).\n<li>Now go into \u201cManage Services on Server\u201d under \u201cSystem Settings\u201d and enable the following services (on your APP server)\n<ul>\n<li>Secure Store Service\n<li>Access Services\n<li>Access Services 2010 (yes, you really should set this up too \u2013 like it or not)\n<li>App Management Service\n<li>Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Subscription Settings Service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>From Central Admin, run the farm configuration wizard and turn on the required services (as noted in the last step)\n<li>Now go back to earlier in the document and setup the \u201cIIS Application Pool Load User Profile Setting\u201d\n<li>Ensure you have a security key setup in your secure store\n<li>Create a site collection that you\u2019ll use as your \u201cAccess apps management store\u201d\n<ul>\n<li>Once created, go into the site collection and ensure you setup permissions for everyone who will need permissions to create access apps \u2013 in order to create an access app, you\u2019ll need at least \u201cOwner\u201d level permissions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Go back to Central Admin and setup a \u201cNew Application Database Server\u201d (under the Access Services 2013 service in \u201cManage Service Applications\u201d), point it at the ACCESS instance you setup earlier (I recommend you use a <a href=\"http:\/\/mmman.itgroove.net\/2012\/07\/setting-up-a-sql-server-alias-with-sharepoint-server-2010\/\">SQL alias<\/a> to do this)\n<li>Finally, create a new Access App from Access 2013, and point the \u201cweb location\u201d to the site you created earlier\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t forget, in order to be able to create an App, you need Owner level permissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently got Access Services (2013) in place in our internal SharePoint 2013 environment.&nbsp;
