Trouble going to external websites that match the internal domain name<\/h4>\n

What: <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Customer has a Windows Server\u00a0with a domain that matches their external website.<\/p>\n

Example: Domain = contoso.ca Public Website = contoso.ca<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Whenever users try to go to the public facing website they get directed to the servers internal resources such as RWW or IIS etc..<\/p>\n

Why:<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the internal DNS there will be an (A)<\/strong> record normally that points to the servers IP causing the lookup to go to the servers resources instead of outside. If you delete this record it will get auto\u00a0 recreated.<\/p>\n

The Fix:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

First in the internal DNS you will want a www Alias (CNAME) record<\/strong> for the website.<\/p>\n

So by default the (A)<\/strong> record to the servers IP address will be auto created by the server If you delete it. To fix this its actually pretty easy.<\/p>\n

Open up the TCP\/IPv4<\/strong> properties for the network card you are using with that IP address.<\/p>\n

Go to Advanced<\/strong> at the bottom.<\/p>\n

Then on the DNS<\/strong> tab unselect Register this connection\u2019s addresses in DNS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Flush DNS and browser cache on the effected PC\u2019s and you should then be able to go the external website from within the network.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
