{"id":2705,"date":"2014-04-02T12:12:28","date_gmt":"2014-04-02T20:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kinglou.itgroove.net\/?p=36"},"modified":"2023-02-24T21:48:32","modified_gmt":"2023-02-24T21:48:32","slug":"exchange-2013-upgrade-to-sp1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/archive\/2014\/04\/02\/exchange-2013-upgrade-to-sp1\/","title":{"rendered":"My Exchange 2013 Upgrade to SP1"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: left\">My Exchange 2013 Upgrade to SP1<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">This is my journey in upgrading our on premises Exchange 2013 server running CU1 to SP1.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">Since my install of CU1 was a little bumpy I made sure to do all the initial preparation.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">SP1 has Schema\/Ad\/Domain changes so make sure deal with them first. Download SP1 and extract it to a folder and run the following from an elevated command prompt.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><strong>setup.exe \/PrepareSchema \/IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><strong>setup.exe \/Preparead \/IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><strong>setup.exe \/Preparedomain \/IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">All three commands worked like expected for me.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">I then ran the Setup to being the GUI install and skipped the <strong>&#8220;Check for Updates&#8221;<\/strong> as it wasn&#8217;t working at the time.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/04\/040214_2011_Exchange2011.png\" alt=\"My Exchange 2013 Upgrade to SP1\" width=\"702\" height=\"323\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">It found my install and gave me the upgrade option.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/04\/040214_2011_Exchange2012.png\" alt=\"\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">The install passed its requirements and started installing happily until grinding to a halt with the error below. <strong><em>&#8220;Unable to install because a previous Interim Update for Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 1 has been installed&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/04\/040214_2011_Exchange2013.png\" alt=\"\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">Why the Upgrade can&#8217;t install with an update installed FROM Microsoft itself is beyond me!?! The update in question was <strong>KB2874216<\/strong> (Security Update for Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 1).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/04\/040214_2011_Exchange2014.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"719\" height=\"75\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>kicker<\/strong><\/span> is that the SP1 install had stopped all the exchange services, set them to all to disabled as well as some other related services. To uninstall this update I needed to start all the services I could remember were set to automatic especially the <strong>Remote Registry<\/strong> service.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/04\/040214_2011_Exchange2015.png\" alt=\"\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">Once that update was removed I re-ran the install and it completed in about an hour and asked for a reboot.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/04\/040214_2011_Exchange2016.png\" alt=\"\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">First things first the Exchange Transport Service would not start, checking the logs pointed to our Exchange Signature program. Microsoft had that fix covered.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">Third-party transport agents cannot be loaded correctly in Exchange Server 2013 after you install SP1<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2938053\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">KB2938053<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"> &#8211; <em>A permanent fix for this solution will be delivered in Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 5 (CU5).<\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">After the fix was applied and the server rebooted that error was gone, but it was replaced with a few more and the Transport Service still would not start.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><strong><em>&#8220;The Receive connector requires TLS before the MailFrom command can be run&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> among other fun errors etc.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">To get everything happy again I had to recreate some of the <strong>Receive Connectors<\/strong> I had created previously as <strong>HubTransport&#8217;s<\/strong> to the new <strong>Frontend Transport &#8211; Custom Option<\/strong>. I had a few created for Relaying and Client Proxys on different ports.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/regroove.ca\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/04\/040214_2011_Exchange2017.png\" alt=\"My Exchange 2013 Upgrade to SP1\" width=\"436\" height=\"247\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-family: Segoe UI\">After I recreated them and restarted the server the Transport Service would now stay started.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My Exchange 2013 Upgrade to SP1 This is my journey in upgrading our on premises Exchange 2013 server running CU1 to SP1.
